What's The App?!

The two most popular phones used today are the blackberry and the iPhone. I myself run with the iPhone crowd and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. One of my favourite capabilities with the iPhone are the applications (or "apps") that users can download through iTunes. These Apps come in a variety of categories including business, games, utilities, sports, weather, travel, social networking and more. Some are free and others cost money, some are extremely practical and others completely useless, some can kill hours and others get you bored after a few minutes. Here's a short list of some apps that I use daily and you should consider if your an iPhone person looking for something interesting.

Twitterrific (Free): For those in the Twitter-verse this app lets you post tweets, reply to friends, read other posts and a few other minor features. You can upgrade to Twitterrific Premium for $3.99 rather than the free version. I can tell you though that the ads aren't in the way whatsoever so why pay?

Bump (Free): If your with a fellow iPhone-er and need their contact info, just connect to the same wi-fi and bump fists. The bumping of the fists is all kinds of stupid but it's pretty cool and saves some time entering the info traditionally.

Trapster (Free): once you set the notifications up in the app then you'll be notified when your coming up to a speed trap, speed camera, check stop and common hiding spots for the po-po. The app does roam so be careful depending on the data package you have.

Drinking Lite (Free): If you feel like playing some drinking games then add this app. The "Lite" version, or as my cheap-ass likes to refer to it "Free", has 25 drinking games to choose from. Everything from classics like Asshole and Beer Pong to newer games like ABC's of Sex and Mexican Quarters will give you hours of fun or until you fall flat on your ass.

Shazam (Free): A classic, if your listening to a song and don't know or can't recall the artist/song title just open the app and hold your phone close the speaker. Chances are pretty good that you'll tag the song and up pops the artist, album name and song name in Shazam. There are even options to watch the video on YouTube if one exists and purchase through iTunes.

Golf Card ($7.99): Golf Card can locate and display information on the course your playing based on your current location. It'll give you the course layout, distance, contact info, directions and when your playing your round it'll act as a GPS and scorecard for up to 4 people. Pretty sweet if you hit the links often enough.

Sportacular (Free): Rather than go online to TSN, ESPN or (god forbid) Sportsnet, use this app for the scores and stats on every game in every league at every level.

Scratch (Free): For those basement DJ's and scratchaholics this app is good at killing some time. Pretty self-explanatory, just choose the beat and scratch away.
